Ultra Filter - Hollow Membrane Filtration - Ultrafiltration membranes are porous filters with pore sizes in the region of a few hundred nanometers. This makes ultrafiltration membranes suitable for the separation of large molecules and colloids from low molecular weight species. The selectivity of ultrafiltration membranes is based on the difference in size of the components to be separated. The driving force for the transport of the components that are small enough to pass through the membrane is a hydrodynamic pressure difference between the feed side and the permeate side of the membrane.
